PROJECT 1B: MINIATURE SHELTER IN NATURE

Introduction

To appreciate nature you have to first notice it, admire it, and feel it. Only then you can begin the act of showing your appreciation. Not to other people, but to yourself. The way you see the natural environment shapes the way you treat it. You will need to treat the natural environment with greater respect. The task of this assignment is to create awareness and to look at the natural environment from a different perspective and eventually it will remind you of your role towards the natural environment.

Objectives

The objectives of this project is to extend knowledge of the natural elements at its basic unit, form and function, to understand the interrelation between natural elements and man-made elements and to question, analyse and articulate the impact towards the natural environment

Tasks

I am required to extend my knowledge through research and to choose 1(one) or a combination of 2(two) of the earth components which are atmosphere on(air/expose to air), hydrosphere(on water or underwater), geosphere(on land/ground) and biosphere(specific to flora setting example: tree). From the chosen natural setting above, we need to find a main suitable site, (approx. 2500mm x 2500mm size) and within the chosen main site, you need to select a shelter site (approx. 500-1000mm x 500-1000mm). The miniature shelter shall be in the shelter site. I am required to do a site study including site survey, site inventory and site analysis upon the selected site. At the same time, each group will be assigned to an animal lego character and concurrently while conducting the site selection and study, each group need to study and consider the needs/essentials of the character in terms of its nature and adaptation. Explanation and justification are required upon interrelation of character and selection site. Ours assigned character is "LEONARDO". We are required to establish a miniature shelter for the assigned character (through the selected site and understanding of assigned character) using a set of blocks. The shelter could be smaller but not bigger than 600x600x600mm size. Throughout this task, we are to record the consideration process for choosing the site and the assembly/placement of the shelter, to record the condition of the site before doing anything to the site and the condition after. Lastly, we are to present all findings according to task above verbally through presentation boards to explain about the condition of environment through the site study (site survey, inventory and investigation) that we have completed, the miniature shelter process with how it relate to the assigned character, the damage/complementary to the natural setting at your chosen site

Work Progress

The photos and video below are taken in Janda Baik and it shows our fun activities and our progress on creating a miniature shelter for our assigned character which is "LEONARDO"!

Below are the draft of our board presentation.

Final outcomes

Reflection and TGC

Throughout this assignment, i had extend my knowledge of the natural elements at its basic unit, form and function. I also understand the interrelation between natural elements and man-made elements. Besides, i learned to question, analyse and articulate the impact towards the natural environment so that it can allow me to think critically to produce a better final outcome of the project.
